san diego landscapingSan Diego Landscape Design... How We Work

The Yard Fairy builds on your landscaping ideas using a variety of plants that are either native to Southern California or thrive in arid climates. We tailor our services according to your budget, aesthetic style, and personal preferences or requests. As our client, you can choose from three levels of landscape design service to meet your needs.

Beneath this section, you'll find the basic workflow process of our landscaping service; this is what to expect once you begin working with The Yard Fairy.

Landscaping Expertise - Uncompromising Quality

Please note: The only time that we do not follow the below workflow steps is in the Basic Landscape Consultation, where we offer you general guidelines and suggestions on how to do your own landscaping.

The Yard Fairy does charge what we feel is a reasonable fee for our Basic Landscape Consultation. This is because we really do put significant time, energy and effort into thinking and planning on your behalf.

As trained horticulturists, we are able to offer you expert guidance on everything from selecting the right plants to spatial considerations to smart irrigation tips, soil augmentation and much more.

In short, we take great pleasure in sharing with you all that we know about landscape design, installation and maintenance in arid climates.

STEP 1: Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation, the designer and client take a tour of the site and discuss the client's ideas. During this process the designer offers ideas and solutions and discusses the style of landscaping and plants best suited to your site. Our design portfolio is available to view as well as samples of our designs. The consultation is usually one hour. A consultation fee of $150 is charged but is subtracted from your design fee should you hire us. After the initial meeting, we will let you know the proposed the design fee and scope of the project.

STEP 2: The Landscape Design Process

Phase 1: Site Analysis

The designer assesses the site, takes measurements, photographs, elevations and documents existing structures and plantings so a detailed Site Analysis can be prepared to scale. The Site Analysis will indicate vegetation to be retained, removed or relocated, drainage issues, privacy issues, sun and shade patterns as well as any other considerations specific to your site.

Phase 2: Preliminary Design

A conceptual sketch of proposed hardscape elements such as a patios, water features, walks and decks, retaining walls and fencing will be provided as well as plant materials. The designer and client meet to review the design, plant selection, review photographs of proposed materials and sketch any revisions to the plan. Once the Preliminary Design is approved by the client, the designer prepares the Final Design.

Phase 3: Final Design

The Final Design will indicate placement and details of hardscape elements as well as plant materials. A list of plant materials indicating botanical name, common name, quantity and sizes of each plant selected will be included.

More About the Level of Quality We Deliver...

Installation

We are a licensed landscape contract company with a reputation for providing high quality work. In order to provide you the best possible service, sometimes we may use subcontractors for certain aspects of projects (for example, an electrician for electrical wiring). We have experience working with many exceptional subcontractors and only seek out those individuals or companies whose reputation for high quality work is as strong as our own.

Maintenance

This is an area that is often overlooked or not included in the budget. Even low maintenance landscapes require attention from time to time in order for the landscape to look its best. We can assist you with developing a maintenance program that best matches your site's requirements. We provide quarterly maintenance services to our past customers.
